SMARTY 2024 – Fourth International Workshop on Stochastic Modeling and Applied Research of Technology – was opened at the Karelian Research Centre RAS on August 26. It has been organized since 2018 by the Institute of Applied Mathematical Research (IAMR) KarRC RAS. The workshop brings together scientists from different countries working on theoretical, algorithmic and methodological aspects of the queuing theory and applied probability theory.
This year, the offline event at KarRC RAS has gathered researchers from Petrozavodsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tomsk, and Veliky Novgorod. Colleagues from abroad participate in the workshop online. All in all, there will be around 40 presentations and 80 participants.
As Alexander Rumyantsev, Organizing Committee Secretary, Head of the Laboratory of Stochastic Modeling of Computer and Telecommunication Systems, IAMR KarRC RAS, informed, the 2024 workshop is devoted, among other things, to the reliability theory and its applications. The reliability theory in mathematics is a discipline that deals with patterns in the distribution of failures of technical devices and structures, the causes and models of their occurrence.
– This theory is applied in the design of telecommunication equipment, systems with a large number of components - such as, for example, solar power plants, tethered high-rise platforms and other modern communication facilities, – explained Alexander Rumyantsev.
SMARTY 2024 partners are the Petrozavodsk State University, Federal Research Centre “Computer Science and Control” RAS, as well as CMS College Kottayam and the Central University of Kerala (India), with which the Institute has a long history of collaboration.
Traditionally, the workshop will be concluded on August 30 by the Youth School for students and early-career researchers.
