The program of the event included the plenary session "Stone industry: challenges, opportunities and development trends", as well as thematic sessions and round tables "Growth points in the Russian mining sector" and "The Battle for stone – natural stone in construction and architecture".
Scientists of the Institute of Geology KarRC RAS acted as experts in discussions on the problems of legislative regulation in the mining and stone-processing industries of the region, the use of natural stone, as well as links with the architectural and construction industries. The discussions have brought the participants to the conclusion that it is necessary to develop cooperation between the mining industry of the republic and the scientific community to ensure proficient assessment of promising sites and objects and professional support in expert reviews of reserves.

Scientists suggested an integration track for government bodies and businesses to resolve some controversial issues. This can be leveraged by creating an Expo-Center of stone building materials based on a common natural stone terminology and publishing a new edition of the atlas of Karelian stone.
–KarRC RAS Institute of Geology boasts an accredited rock testing laboratory as well as a long record of successful operation of the Museum of Precambrian Geology. With this arsenal at its disposal, KarRC RAS can offer a platform for comprehensive support for both the mining business and building architects working with Karelian stone, – summed up the subdivision’s director.
