KarRC RAS CEO Olga Bakhmet joined a council under Russian Presidential Executive Office

Olga Bakhmet, CEO of the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, joined the Scientific Expert Council under the Interdepartmental Working Group of the Russian Presidential Executive Office. At its first meeting, the council will discuss the preparation of the fifth volume of the National Report on Global Climate and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources.
The Interdepartmental Scientific Expert Council under the IWG of the Russian Presidential Executive Office is made up of leading Russian experts representing various scientific and educational organizations of the country. The draft Report was approved by Ruslan Edelgeriev, Aide to the President of Russia, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and Water Resources.

- "I am pleased to inform you that you were included as a member in the renewed Interdepartmental Scientific Expert Council on Global Climate and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources: Zero Emissions and Zero Degradation of Soils in Russia (Agriculture and Forestry) under the IWG of the Russian Presidential Executive Office”, - reads the letter signed by Chairman of the Council, Director of Dokuchaev Soil Institute, RAS Academician Andrey Ivanov.

The first meeting of the Council will be held soon and will focus on the preparation of the fifth volume of the National Report: "Global climate and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources: current situation and ways to tackle the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, 1986-2026". The scientific supervisor of the fifth volume is Corresponding Academician, Doctor of Biological Sciences Sergey Voronov.

Olga Bakhmet, KarRC RAS CEO, Corresponding Fellow of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Biological Sciences, is a member of the Inter-academy Council for the Development of the Union State, Scientific Council for Arctic and Antarctic Studies under RAS Presidium, RAS Scientific Council on Regional Policy. Previously, on April 24 and 25, 2025, KarRC RAS hosted an offsite meeting of the RAS Scientific Council on Arctic and Antarctic Studies in Petrozavodsk, where Olga Bakhmet was one of keynote speakers.

A meeting has been organized at KarRC RAS Institute of Economics, gathering representatives of the business community (management of JSC Kondopoga Pulp and Paper Mill), science, and Government of the Republic of Karelia. The discussion centered around potential cooperation and introduction of emerging green chemistry technologies for the deep processing of wood in Karelia.
