Scientific publications

The book is devoted to performers of the oral folklore of Zaonezhje, Povenets shore and Vygozero areas. It tells the reader about their life stories, personal and artistic characteristics, collectors' impressions of their attitude towards traditions, about performances by well-known narrators in St. Petersburg, Moscow and other cities, abroad, too. The preface relates the history of folklore gathering in Zaonezhje. Notes describe the genres in the repertoire of each performer, provide information about the collectors and years of recording, refer to text publications and reprints. The volume contains also the Performer index, map and photographs of many of the performers. The book was prepared using materials from the Karelian Research Centre Archives and publications of folklore collecting researchers since the 19th century to our days. The publication is meant for specialists in folklore, ethnography, literature, for professors and students, as well as for any reader interested in folklore traditions.
