The structures of titaniferous alumino-silicate ornamental glasses were studied by different-resolution electron microscopy, electron microanalysis and X-raying methods. The formation of ornamental colour was found to be caused by stable and metastable liquation of melts and glasses that gives rise to compositionally different macrolayers and microphases. The chemical composition of glasses is shown to affect liquation processes in the system studied.
