The White Sea petroglyphs include 32 groupings on the islands not higher than 2.5-3 m above the water in the 1.5-2 km stretch of the river Vyg (fig. 8-12). The largest and the most famous among these groupings are: Besovy Sledki, Staraya Zalavruga, Novaya Zalavruga, Erpin Pudas.
Each of the groupings comprises several to several dozens figures, in three cases -over a hundred. Many of the groupings were found during field research in the 1960's-80's whereupon the total number of engravings found doubled. We now know over 2000 figures in the White Sea area, and about 1000 figures - on the eastern shore of Lake Onega.
